    How to Get EcoVadis Gold

EcoVadis Gold goes to companies in the top 5% of everyone rated in the previous 12 months. No fixed score guarantees it, and you need at least 30 in each of the four themes. Getting there means documented policies, measurable actions and published results across Environment, Labour and Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement.

    What Gold requires

Since medals became percentile-based, Gold is a ranking. You are competing with every company EcoVadis rated in the last year, across all sectors. That means two things: you need a strong overall score, and that score has to hold up as the rest of the market improves.

    Why Silver companies miss Gold

The gap between Silver and Gold is usually one or two weak areas. Sustainable Procurement is the most common, because many companies treat it as an afterthought. Results come next: Silver companies often have good policies but report few hard numbers. Gold companies measure, publish and improve.

    What Gold-level evidence looks like

Use this as a self-check before you submit.
    What Gold-level evidence looks like
    ThemeGold-level evidence
EnvironmentMeasured Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, reduction targets with progress, ISO 14001 or equivalent
Labour and Human RightsHealth and safety management system, tracked accident and training KPIs, diversity data, human rights policy
EthicsAnti-corruption and information security policies with training, a working whistleblowing channel, risk assessment
Sustainable ProcurementSupplier code of conduct, supplier risk mapping, assessments or audits of key suppliers, tracked coverage

    A route to Gold

    1. Score your current evidence against the table above and find the weakest theme. 2. Bring every theme comfortably above 30 first, since one weak theme blocks any medal. 3. Move from narrative to numbers: publish KPIs for energy, emissions, safety and training. 4. Add external validation, such as certifications and endorsements. 5. Publish a sustainability report so your results are public. 6. Reassess, then keep improving to stay ahead of the percentile.

    Keeping Gold

Holding Gold is a moving target. The market improves every year, so a score that earned Gold this year may only earn Silver next year. Build improvement into each cycle so your evidence keeps pace.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What score do you need for EcoVadis Gold?

There is no published cut-off. Gold goes to the top 5% of companies rated in the previous 12 months, so the score needed shifts as the market improves.

How many companies have EcoVadis Gold?

By design, roughly the top 5% of rated companies hold Gold or Platinum, with Platinum covering the top 1%.

How long does it take to get from Silver to Gold?

Usually one assessment cycle if the gaps are documentation, and longer if you need to start measuring KPIs from scratch.

    Is EcoVadis Gold worth it?

If your customers require Gold, or it helps you win tenders, yes. Check what your buyers actually ask for before investing heavily.

Can a small company get EcoVadis Gold?

Yes. Expectations scale with company size, so a smaller company needs proportionate, well-documented systems rather than enterprise-scale programmes.

Which theme matters most for Gold?

Your weakest one. Theme weightings vary by industry, and a single theme under 30 rules out any medal.

Do I need a sustainability report for Gold?

Public reporting is strong evidence under results. Most Gold-rated companies publish their KPIs in some form.
